The Etymology of Eos
Since launching the Eos Foundation, we’ve often been asked what our name means and what it stands for. Inspired by a crossword puzzle clue, our trustees stumbled upon the name Eos from Greek mythology.
Eos is the goddess of dawn. Each day, she would open the gates of heaven so that her brother – Helios, the sun god – could ride through on his chariot. Our hope is that the foundation will recall the role Eos herself played: spreading enlightenment and hastening new beginnings.
